ULTRASOUND-GUIDED INJECTIONS

The use of ultrasound in medical practices has greatly aided the ability to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal conditions in patients. Ultrasound is a convenient and inexpensive way to your diagnosis by Dr Ameer Ibrahim.

The video below is of an ultrasound-guided cortisone injection for a patient with chronic shoulder bursitis and was captured by Dr Ameer Ibrahim. Dr Ibrahim is qualified to perform ultrasound-guided injections, which, when prescribed, can provide great relief from chronic joint issues.

Ultrasound-guided injections can be used quickly to diagnose and treat:

  • Thickened tendon verses ruptured tendon

  • Tendon inflammation (Colour Doppler)

  • Avulsion of bone (fracture)

  • The presence of inflamed bursae

  • Fluid in joint

  • Haematoma in muscles (corks)

  • Neuroma (Morton's Neuroma)

Ultrasound is extremely useful in guiding injections into tendons, bursae and joints. Accuracy is heightened when the tip of the needle is placed into tissue under ultrasound guidance. Improved accuracy with ultrasound ultimately improves the effectiveness of injection therapy. Studies show superior results in treatment with ultrasound-guided injections. Small and large joints of the body can be identified and injected on the same day in Dr Ibrahim's rooms. Tendon treatments can be assessed and monitored under direct ultrasound vision.

Treatments performed under ultrasound into tendons and joints:

  • Platelet rich plasma

  • Cortisone injections

  • Prolotherapy

  • Hydrodilation of joints

  • Adipose derived stem cells
