CINGAL (Hyaluronic Acid)

CINGAL® is a unique single-injection treatment proven to safely and effectively treat the pain and certain symptoms associated with osteoarthritis (OA). CINGAL combines two well-established treatments in a single injection, providing the benefits of both an approved corticosteroid and a proprietary high concentration cross-linked hyaluronic acid formulation

Today, Dr Ameer Ibrahim can offer you hyaluronic acid injections if you are experiencing pain due to osteoarthritis of the knee. The injections help restore the cushioning and lubricating properties of the knee joint and can relieve pain for up to 6 months.

If you are not ready for surgery and over-the-counter and prescription pain medications no longer provide pain relief, talk to Dr Ibrahim about hyaluronic acid injections as an option for managing your knee pain.

What is it used for?

CINGAL is used in knee Osteoarthritis.

Arthritic knees tend to produce lower concentrations of hyaluronic acid which is used to lubricate the knee.

Without HA the knee is less shock absorbing and can be a cause of pain.

How long does it last for?

Typically an injection of HA will last for 6-9 months.

A recent study showed that repeated injections every  6 months for 2 years, followed by yearly injections is the best method to administer Cingal.

How is Cingal administered?

CINGAL is a single injection that is given in the knee under Ultrasound vision.

Some patients may require local anesthetic prior to the injection but the pain overall is minimal.

Patients can walk out of the surgery and drive themselves home. In some cases it is difficult to give the injection with the ultrasound, but your doctor will discuss this prior to giving you the treatment.

How long before I see results?

Some of my patients will notice an improvement in less than 48 hours.

Most patients will notice an improvement in pain levels in 1 week and sometimes up to 2 weeks.

Are there any side effects?

In a CINGAL clinical study, a low number of patients experienced minor side effects.

All were common side effects seen with viscosupplement injections, including injection site pain, joint pain, rash, redness or swelling, and all were resolved naturally without treatment.
